Welcome to 2nd Grade

I am asking each student to send in a “Me Box or Bag” the first or second week of school. I will share mine on the first day.  This will help me become more familiar with the students, as well as help them get to know each other better. Encourage your child to decorate a shoebox or bag. If a shoebox is not available feel free to use the bag I’m sending home if requested. Pick 6 to 8 items and/or pictures to put in your box that help tell about your family, pets, hobbies, favorite book, special award, etc.  Please do not send anything of great value. Be creative! I hope this is a fun assignment for you and your child. I can’t wait to see what everyone brings! The Me Box items and pictures will be returned. I would also like for you to send in a family photo to hang in the room. This will not be returned.

Dear Brand New 2nd Graders and Families,

You’ve made it to Second  Grade! My name is Dawn Young and I will be your child’s second grade teacher for the 2020-2021 school year.  I am very excited to get to know you and your family!

It will be my sixth year at Midtown and my twenty-first year teaching in Roane County.  I feel so fortunate to have the ability to work with wonderful staff, supportive families, and the outstanding students of Midtown Elementary.

My mission as an educator is to establish the best possible learning environment for my students.  I will guide your child to become a lifelong learner who knows how to understand and navigate the ever changing world.  We will use age appropriate technology every day. Students will develop problem solving skills by learning how to troubleshoot as needs arise.  To support each child, I will work to ensure that the parent and teacher relationship is established. I will communicate through various methods about your child’s progress and success.  This coming year your child will do many new things. Some examples of what we will do are: work with others, explore new things, listen to and follow directions, become independent in learning, and develop good decision making skills.  Daily practice of all these things will provide your child with all of the necessary ingredients to a successful school year.

I am eager to get to know each and every one of you.  Please feel free to contact me via email or through Class Dojo with any questions.  We are going to have a fantastic and fun-filled year!
