Midtown Elementary School

Mrs. Jewel Jones » Welcome

Welcome back to school!  I am looking forward to teaching your child this year!  I have taught for 23 years in 6th, 5th, 4th, 3rd, and 1st grades.  For the most part, I have taught the upper grades in Reading and Language Arts classes.  I received my degrees from Tennessee Tech; a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education for Gr. 1-8 and a Master's degree in Instructional Leadership.
I live in Harriman with my husband Joe and my two wonderful children.  I enjoy traveling, antiquing, reading, decorating, scrapbooking, and spending time with my family.  I am a member of Trenton Street Baptist Church and teach Sunday School to the younger youth.
Expect your child to read, write, and study every week.  Our 5th grade Reading curriculum is very rigorous and includes MANY skills and expectations.  This year's state test will include: fluency, listening, comprehension, vocabulary, spelling, writing, and grammar.  The state and county are setting high expectations for students to be able to read and comprehend grade-level materials.  Their final grade will include 15%-20% of their state test performance.
My goal is to provide your child with the best education possible.  I want to teach your children the way I would want my children to be taught.  Instilling hard working values, showing positive attitudes, and perseverance will make your child succeed!  With you and I working together, I know we can make this happen!
